Nearly all of us have had past liaisons that didn’t work out. Perhaps its one of these that sees us on an online dating site looking for that new person.
We are programmed as human beings to expect things in the future to work out pretty much as things did in the past. We are creatures of habit eating the same food, pursuing the same type of job and expecting our next partner to cheat on us because the last one did.
Slow down neddy! The first examples were all about you and your personal choices and you are still the same person. The last example was about someone else and their choices. True, your last partner will probably go on to do the dirty on their next boy or girlfriend but that doesn’t mean your new friend will do the same.
It’s not just cheating that I am talking about, it’s all the behaviour that has affected you in the past whether it be the utterly dreadful domestic violence to the banal mixing of coloureds and whites in the wash.
Ask yourself this; How would you like to be judged based on someone else’s (who you never met) behaviour in times past? My guess is that you wouldn’t think that to be fair but it’s this pre-judging that screws up so many new relationships.
Speak as you find my Mum told me. Good advice methinks!
